A Look Inside Yoga Teacher Training

A deeper look at Solstice Yoga’s 200-hour training—what we cover, how it’s structured, and what to expect.

A Day in the Life of YTT

Yoga Teacher Training isn’t just about learning how to lead a class—it’s about rediscovering your voice, deepening your relationship to practice, and building genuine connections.

Over the course of this training, we’ll explore yoga as a whole system—not just asana, but breathwork, meditation, philosophy, teaching, and self-inquiry. You’ll learn how to guide others in the practice, but more importantly, you’ll have space to reflect on what the practice reveals about you.

Many folks join with the goal of teaching, while others come to deepen their personal journey. Either way, YTT has a way of reshaping how we move through the world. It challenges and supports us to step more fully into ourselves—with clarity, compassion, and strength.

A Look at the Manual

Our manual is divided into four core sections designed to support you through every layer of the training—philosophy, teaching, movement, and integration.

Yoga Philosophy

Dive into the foundational texts and frameworks of yoga—from the Eight Limbs and Yoga Sutras to the Bhagavad Gita and the subtle body systems like chakras, doshas, and koshas.

Teaching Techniques

Learn how to guide others with clarity and confidence. This section covers everything from breathwork and cueing to sequencing, hands-on assists, accessibility, and finding your voice as a teacher.

Anatomy

Build an understanding of functional anatomy and how the body moves—so you can teach with both precision and compassion.

Pose Library

A go-to resource for postures: how to cue them, what they target, and how to offer modifications to support a wide range of students.

Meet Your Teachers

Naomi Pritchett, Lead Trainer

Naomi first stepped on the mat in 2009 and has spent the last decade immersed in the study and teaching of yoga. With over 1,000 hours of training and teaching experience, she specializes in vinyasa yoga, functional movement, and adaptive modifications. Her approach blends traditional yoga with strength-based movement and mobility practices, shaped by years of experience in both yoga and fitness settings across North Carolina and Texas.

Before opening Solstice Yoga, Naomi taught at a range of studios—leading group classes, private sessions, and co-facilitating multiple teacher trainings. She has studied everything from trauma-informed yoga and advanced assisting to kettlebell training and Ayurvedic principles. Her style is both grounded and dynamic, focused on sequencing that makes sense in the body and cueing that meets people where they are.

Naomi opened Solstice Yoga to create a space where teachers could continue to grow—not just in their teaching, but in their practice, their presence, and their voice. She believes deeply in the power of this work and loves mentoring future teachers just as much (if not more) than being in the seat of the teacher herself.

Janice Thomas, Teacher Trainer

Janice first found yoga in 2018 as a new mom looking for space to move, breathe, and reconnect with herself. What started as a personal outlet quickly became a lifelong practice—one rooted in strength, self-awareness, and community.

After completing her 200-hour teacher training in 2021, Janice became part of the founding teaching team at Solstice Yoga when the studio opened in 2023. She now serves as Lead Teacher, where she mentors new instructors, supports class development, and helps shape the studio’s teaching culture. She played a key role in co-leading our first Yoga Teacher Training and continues to guide each new group of trainees with clarity, warmth, and presence.

Janice is known for her strong, intentional classes that blend vinyasa flow with functional movement and smart sequencing. Her teaching is precise and purposeful, with thoughtful hands-on assists, direct cueing, and plenty of space for challenge and growth. She brings a deep commitment to learning—always evolving her own practice so she can support others in doing the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t want to be a yoga teacher? Can I still do teacher training?

Absolutely. About half of our trainees don’t plan to teach—they’re here to dive deeper into their personal practice. Learning how to teach is a big part of training, but not because you’re expected to lead a class after. Teaching reveals so much about how we communicate, think, and show up. It’s a powerful tool for self-reflection, and this environment is a supportive space to grow—especially if things like public speaking feel out of your comfort zone.

Will I be doing yoga all weekend?

Yes and no! Yoga is more than movement. We’ll practice physical postures, but also explore breathwork, meditation, teaching tools, and philosophy. You’ll typically do one or two full heated classes each weekend, but the rest of our time is a balance of learning, rest, and hands-on work in a room that’s comfortably cooled. Our weekends are immersive—but we always aim to honor the balance of effort and ease.

How long should I practice yoga before doing a teacher training?

There is no right answer to this question, however, a foundational yoga practice is highly recommended so you have a baseline to grow upon as you begin YTT.

An “advanced practice” (mastery of difficult poses) is not required!

(You can participate in and complete YTT even if you are recovering from or dealing with chronic or acute injuries.)

How do trainees manage their time?

This training is designed to be manageable—even with a full life. With just one weekend a month, you’ll have space to absorb the material while staying grounded in your work, school, or family routines.

If this training is calling you, know that there may never be a “perfect” time. That’s why the long-format structure is intentional—it gives you time to grow at a sustainable pace. And often, when you say yes to something meaningful, life has a way of rising to meet you.

What kind of assignments will we have outside of training weekends?

Homework counts toward your 200-hour certification. You can expect a mix of assignments: reading, journaling, class attendance, sequencing exercises, and observation.

What if I need to miss a weekend?

To receive your certificate of completion, you’ll need to attend at least 90% of the in-person training—which means you can miss one weekend without penalty.

If you need to miss more than one session, you may be required to complete make-up assignments and attend additional make-up sessions. Depending on the material covered that weekend, a make-up fee may apply.
